Description
This authentic Colt Single Action Army Revolver, manufactured in 1882, is a highly desirable “Frontier Six Shooter” variant chambered in .44-40 WCF, featuring the iconic acid-etched barrel panel reading “COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER.” The etching, though often lost to time on most examples, remains legible here—adding significant collector appeal.
Bearing matching visible serial numbers on the frame, trigger guard, cylinder, and butt, this revolver exemplifies the craftsmanship and character of the American frontier era. Its well-aged brown and gray patina reflects genuine use, with traces of original blue and casehardened finish still visible in protected areas. The walnut grips, showing small chips and western handling wear, fit the revolver’s story of hard use on the range.
This example also features a replacement ejector rod and cylinder pin, both period-correct replacements common among long-serving frontier guns. Mechanically functional and loaded with historical presence, this Colt stands as a true survivor of the Wild West and a centerpiece for any antique arms collection.
