Description
Description
This historic Winchester Model 1892 lever-action rifle was modified by the legendary Stembridge Gun Rentals, Inc. for use in film and television. Converted to resemble a Henry rifle, this screen-used prop appeared in numerous Hollywood westerns, most notably the iconic Paramount Pictures series Bonanza.
Originally manufactured in the early 1900s (restamped serial number dating to 1916), the rifle was altered by Stembridge’s Hollywood gunsmiths to achieve an authentic frontier look. The modifications include a brass-plated receiver, nickel-plated barrel and furniture, removal of the forearm, and the addition of a false magazine follower to mimic the classic 1860 Henry design.
Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Syd Stembridge and a copy of a Paramount rental invoice listing “Winchester 44/40 Rifles for Henrys,” this rifle represents a rare opportunity to own a genuine piece of Western cinema history. Displayed in fine condition as modified for blank-fire use, this rifle carries the distinctive patina and handling marks expected from decades of studio service.
